8. Bad Taste

Description: The LikeTelevision™ movie channel presents a delightful horror classic from 1987 called Bad Taste, produced and directed by Peter Jackson, best known for his work on the JRR Tolkien movies, including the Lord of the Rings series and if fans get their wish, The Hobbit (though that looks bleak now). Well, long before Peter Jackson was a big cheese in film, he made this film with his school buddies over a four year period about a group of secret government agents in charge of keeping the world safe from invading aliens from distant galaxies. The budget for the film was next to nothing though it was a step up from a bunch of his previous efforts shot on 8mm film. Peter finally got a decent camera, a hand wound 16mm Bolex that was used for this movie and a little bit of money from a grant that helped him create more elaborate special effects.Bad Taste is an amazing movie - you can see the genius of Peter Jackson on display even as a young lad. He not only directed and produced this film, he even stars as young Derek, the courageous geek leader of the Alien Protection Squad who has to keep repacking his brains that have partially fallen out of his head.

9. Barney's Hungry Cousin

10. Battle of Algiers, The

Description: The Battle of Algiers (or La Battaglia di Algeri if you prefer the original French title) is a remarkable movie about the sublime horrors of war. Directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, this 1965 documentary tells the story of the Battle of Algiers, which pitted a French colonial government against an emerging group of revolutionary Islamic rebels, who used terrorism and suicide attacks to gain independence, but Lost this battle - as the French used torture to extract information to break up and destroy the terrorist cells. Ultimately, the country did gain independence, but only after the French broke the revolutionary movement. The movie is very realistic, though no archive war footage was used in the creation of this film. Travolta stars as Tod Lubitch, a real kid with a huge problem with his immune system, so he has to live in the plastic bubble. While most folks remember the imfamous Jerry Seinfeld episode with the kid in the plastic bubble (a.k.a. Bubble Boy), few have seen this mildly annoying sugar coated California treat. The film is filled with star power - with Robert Reed, best known as Mike Brady from the Brady Bunch as the Dad, Ralph Bellamy as the Immunologist, and Diana Hyland as the mother. As you might already know - she was John Travolta's lover at the time (she was 41, Travolta about 23). She died on March 27, 1977 in Travolta's arms after suffering through breast cancer. Diana Hyland was also the original mom and tv show wife of Dick Van Patten on the show Eight is Enough. 16. Brain That Wouldn't Die, The

Description: LikeTelevision™ proudly presents - The Brain That Wouldn't Die, (a.k.a. the Head that Wouldn't Die) a science fiction classic from 1962 and perhaps one of the worst films ever made. Which is why it is so AWESOME! Folks, this is Ed Wood, Plan Nine from Outer Space bad... a true horror movie in so many ways. A pompous windbag doctor named Bill Cortner gets in a car accident with his girlfriend. She loses her head (i.e. decapitated).. but Bill doesn't. This classic East German film - originally named Der Schweigende Stern (also named Raumschiff Venus antwortet nicht) was made in 1959 and the cinemamatic portrayal of computers and space travel is really a remarkable feat. The spaceship looks like a sleek Space Shuttle - looking more like a cool airplane than a rocketship. The computers are also very cool - and a must see for all geeks and techies.

29. Floating Weeds - Ukigusa

Description: LikeTelevision™ proudly presents - Floating Weeds or Ukigusa which is the roginal Japanese title. This is one of acclaimed director Yasujiro Ozu's finest works. It tells the wonderful story of Komajuro Arashi, an aging master of a travelling Kabuke troupe that is hits the skids in a small Japanese towns. (or to coin a phrase from This is Spinal Tap - their appeal is becoming more selective). Master Komajuro wants to see his son, who has grown up since his last visit a decade ago and his aging mistress, Sumiko. Of course this angers his current flame, the top actress of the show. Like many a spurned women, she seeks vengence and the results are disastrous. This is a great story from one of the best directors of all time and while many people might prefer Ozu's Tokyo Monogatari, Floating Weeds is my personal favorite.

30. Franco Becomes Head Of Spain

31. Grande Illusion, La

Description: Jean Renoir's La Grande Illusion, a.k.a. Grand Illusion is a wonderful film about 2 French Officers during WWI who are captured and sent to a prison camp. Erich von Stroheim, best known for his role as Max Von Meyerling in Billy Wilder's Sunset Blvd, stars as a German Ace Captain von Rauffenstein (who shot down the 2 Frenchmen) and then gets reassigned to become commandant (he's not like Werner Von Klemperer, a.k.a. Colonel Klink) of a prison camp after sustaining serious injury by getting shot down. There's additional tension and class conflict between the French Captain De Boeldieu (Pierre Fresnay), who is an aristocrat and Lieutenant Marechal (Jean Gabin) who is a mechanic. The film also portrays an underlying anti-semitism, with the character Lieutenant Rosenthal (Marcel Dalio), who is slowing down an escape attempt when he strains his ankle. This is a really great film, voted in the top 250 of all time at IMDB.com.

Be sure notice William Talman in part one, a.k.a. Burger on Perry Mason, waving at the girls on stage. 38. Last Time I Saw Paris

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Movie channel proudly presents - Last Time I Saw Paris, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, Donna Reed, and Walter Pidgeon. A fun movie that appears to be based on the life of American novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald, who wrote a bunch of terrific short stories (Diamond as Big as the Ritz is a personal favorite) but is best known for writing The Great Gatsby. The film is a loose adaptation of his time spent in Paris as a shallow rich guy searching for some meaning in his life. (I think it was Gertrude Stein, or Ernest Hemingway maybe... who coined the term - The Lost Generation, which spoke of these idle rich American artists who wasted their talents getting drunk and carousing in Paris).

NYC newspaper reporter Wallace Cook tries to redeem himself after a hoax blows up by covering the story of Hazel Flagg, a Vermont girl dying of radium poisoning. (yes, it's fake news!) But the truth is, she's perfectly healthy. BTW - this 1937 movie in Technicolor features Margaret Hamilton in a short scene, (2 years later she gets a huge role, also in color as The Wicked Witch of The West The Wizard of Oz.) 50. One Step Beyond - Mask

Description: This is another terrific episode of One Step Beyond, a cool Sci-Fi TV show from the late 50s, early 60s... that inspired a few other cool sci-fi tv shows like The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. The Mask features Wesley Lau, best known as Lt. Andy Anderson from the Perry Mason tv show, as a soldier named Wollenski. He got Lost in the middle of the Egyptian desert during his tour of duty, and wakes up in the hospital with a pillow case over his head... I guess he got sunburned or something. Anyway, for no good reason, he starts drawing some wild hieroglyphics on a napkin and gives the artwork to a guy named Brimley (and while he looks like Wilfred Brimley on the Quaker Oats commercials - it's a different guy)... who just happens to be an archeologist. Small world, huh? Well... it seems that Wollenski has the spirit of some old Pharoah in him, who wants to reveal the whereabouts of his missing tomb. Released in 1955 and directed by the Swedish master Ingmar Bergman, Sommarnattens leende is right up there in the list of top Bergman films. It reminded me very much of Jean Renoir's 1939 satiric look at love, Rules of the Game. My goodness, the folks back then sure did carry on. The scene at the end with seminarian son yearning for closure on his tortured love with his dad's wife - gets an answer from heaven. Well, not really - you will have to see it. A great movie - 10.

Description: Classic Kurosawa tale of ambition, power, and fate. Two Samurai warriors (Washiza and Miki) encounter an evil spirit in the Cobweb Forest who sees the future. She tells them of their rise to power and how ambition will guide their actions. The film draws from Shakespeare's Macbeth - but the setting is feudal Japan. Like Lady Macbeth, Washiza's wife has a difficult time washing that darn blood off her hands.

Starring Toshir? Mifune as Washiza, the trusted Samurai hero and protector of a group of powerful leaders who control the Cobweb Castle, and several other forts and castles An evil spirit's prophesy guides his actions and he kills the top Lord and usurps his power - only to be replaced by equally ambitious men.

Set in Feudal Japan - Two Samurai heros turn on their Lords and gain power. Did you know that Kurosawa films like this created the inspiration for films like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Yojimbo) and Star Wars (Hidden Fortress) Watch this clip for more Kurosawa background info!

68. To Kill A Mockingbird

Description: To Kill A Mockingbird is a classic American film, based on Harper Lee's novel, Horton Foote's screenplay is amazing - and Gregory Peck's performance as Atticus Finch was nothing short of stunning. The story is told through the eyes of Jean Louise Finch, Scout to her friends, as she recalls this tumultuous period many years later. Mary Badham's performance as Scout is flawless. She was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role but Lost to Patty Duke for her role as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. Had she won, she would have been the youngest person to win this award. 1962 was one of the best years in the history of film. I am convinced this film would have won best picture - but it happened to come out the same year as David Lean's masterpiece, Lawrence of Arabia, with Peter O'Toole. How good was 1962 you ask? On top of those two epic films - you had Mutiny on the Bounty. The Miracle Worker, Days of Wine and Roses, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, Billy Budd, The Music Man, Birdman of Alcatraz. The Manchurian Candidate, and The Longest Day. Come on Hollywood... get to work and give us another 1962!
