2. Beat The Devil

Description: Beat the Devil, (1953) was made in the later years of Humphrey Bogart's brilliant acting career. Bogie plays Billy Dannreuther, an opportunist hoping to get rich in Africa. But the treasure in this movie isn't gold, it is land that is rich in uranium deposits. The movie is presented to you in glorious Black and White, and in our view far surpasses Ted Turner's colorized version. The screenplay was written by Truman Capote and John Huston. The movie also stars Gina Lollabrigida, Peter Lorre, Jennifer Jones, and Robert Morley.

4. Borrowers, The

Description: The LikeTelevision™ movie channel proudly presents - The Borrowers starring Eddie Albert, Tammy Brimes, Dame Judith Anderson, and Karen Pearson. Based on Mary Norton's award winning children's story classic - it tells the tale of the diminutive (like itsy bitsy) Clock Family, who are about 2 inches tall and live beneath the floorboards of an old English country estate. They "borrow" stuff from the big humans who live above them and do everything they can to remain undetected. Things get a little crazy when Aunt Sophy's young nephew moves in. As the little Clock's learn - there's few things more dangerous than a curious little boy.

5. Drunken Angel

Description: This is a classic movie - by perhaps the greatest filmmaker of all time, Akira Kurosawa. Dr. Sanada, played by Takashi Shimura (the leader in Seven Samurai), treats a petty criminal named Matsunaga (Toshiro Mifune) with tuberculosis, and tries to get him to work at treating his disease (stop drinking, smoking, get some rest, etc.) Meanwhile, another gangster gets out of prison and a feud breaks out between rival factions. A cool look at the underworld in Japan in post WWII, and the courage of a poor doctor, who is trying to cure another human, even if he is a criminal. We regret that the subtitles are difficult to read - but the story is pretty easy to follow.

Party guests include Richard Long of 77 Sunset Strip and The Big Valley fame and the consumate character actor Elisha Cook, Jr. The five diverse guests are each offered $10,000 if they can stay in the haunted mansion overnight. Replete with ghosts, ghouls, disembodied heads, a vat of acid, an organ that plays itself, murder, mayhem, screaming women and theramin music, this big screen classic of the 50's is an absolute must see. So turn the lights, shut the shades and be prepared to be afraid - in the old school style.

9. I Drunk Too Much

Description: I drunk Too Much comes to LikeTelevision from Jon Bare, out in sunny California. This short film and music video tells the story how Jon got a D.U.I. in California because he ... well.... had too much to drink. One is reminded of the Bobby Fuller Four - I fought the law... and the law won. Jon still has the Mazda RX 7, and animated the dancing fried chicken legs. Check out this mondo music video, rolled up in broadband internet media, and folded into a cool song. Also - check out James Dean, doing a PSA with Gig Young on Driving Safety.

10. Last Time I Saw Paris

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Movie channel proudly presents - Last Time I Saw Paris, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, Donna Reed, and Walter Pidgeon. A fun movie that appears to be based on the life of American novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald, who wrote a bunch of terrific short stories (Diamond as Big as the Ritz is a personal favorite) but is best known for writing The Great Gatsby. The film is a loose adaptation of his time spent in Paris as a shallow rich guy searching for some meaning in his life. (I think it was Gertrude Stein, or Ernest Hemingway maybe... who coined the term - The Lost Generation, which spoke of these idle rich American artists who wasted their talents getting drunk and carousing in Paris).

11. Latest Gun in the West - 3 stooges

Description: LikeTelevision™ proudly presents - The Lastest Gun in the West starring the Three Stooges, post Curly Howard. This cartoon begins with the real world stooges - in color no less, messing about in a Dentist's Office. A bizarre segue to the cartoon - where the stooges are after a notorious bandit - that is actually a robot gunman that robs banks. If you recognize the voice of the robot - well you should. It's Hal Smith - best know as Otis Campbell, the happy drunk from The Andy Griffith Show. Hal Smith however was the voice of countless cartoon characters - too many to mention, see this page for more information.

13. Milky Way

When he hears his sister calling for help late one night - he comes to her aid - and ends up in the newspapers because everyone thinks the middleweight champ was decked by the milk man!
