3. A-Lad-in-Bagdad

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Cartoon channel proudly presents A-Lad-in-Bagdad, get it.... like Aladdin... and his magic lamp. This cartoon is very overtly racist - as the Black Genie is an ugly stereotype - and of course the villain, the evil Arab character, appears to be an early member of Al Queda, working for the notorious Osama Bin Laden. This funky cartoon features that egghead guy as Aladdin, who wins the lamp in one of those midway crane games -see the great gum grabber in the toy section if you are confused. Well, the Sultan plans an entertainment contest to see who gets to marry his daughter. And it appears he is smoking a houka, you know..... a water pipe, like in the Jefferson airplane song, White Rabbit, which featured the houka smoking catepillar. Got it? BTW - we know that Bagdad is really spelled Baghdad.... ummm, I think it is anyway. It is hard to believe this was made for children, huh? Our apologies - we present it as a piece of history.

5. Angels Hard As They Come

Description: LikeTelevision's movie channel proudly presents -Angels Hard As They Come, a classic biker movie. Warning: This film contains some gratuitous nudity, drugs and foul language, like most biker films. Angels Hard As They Come, was made in 1971, is an interesting piece of film history for a lot of reasons. Jonathan Demme produced the film and helped write the screenplay. Demme is best known for directing Philadelphia with Tom Hanks and Silence of the Lambs starring Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. But here's a little factiod tie-in - Scott Glenn, the hero Long John in Angels Hard As They Come played Clarice's boss, Jack Crawford and Roger Corman was FBI Director Hayden Burke in Demme's film adaptation of the terrific Thomas Harris novel. Small world, huh?. Also of note, Angels Hard As They Come marks the screen debut of Gary Busey, who stars as the hippy, Henry - while in real life, he's an avid biker.

18. Boudu Saved From Drowning

Description: The LikeTelevision™ movie channel proudly presents an enchanting 1932 Jean Renoir film called Boudu sauve des eaux, or in English - Boudu Saved from Drowning. A poor homeless man named Boudu tries to drown himself in the Seine River, but is saved by the wealthy book store owner, Edouard Lestingois who was watching Boudu from his window. Boudu moves in with the family and has quite an impact on each of their lives. Priape Boudu is played by Michel Simon, who was a major star in France. Basically - he was like the French Charlie Chaplin or Jerry Lewis. Kind of like a national treasure. Also of note, this film caused a major scandal when it was released. Not because of the kissing or extramarital affairs (hey, they're French)... but people took major exception to, of all things - the filthy side of being homeless. Boudu's table manners, especially eating the food with his fingers. Totally taboo! The Police came and shut down theaters. It was a very serious matter at the time. In addition, Boudu doesn't seem particularly grateful to Monsieur Lestingois' generosity. Folks were infuriated by this as well.

Description: Jean Renoir's Rules of the game is one of the greatest films ever made. As you might already know, Jean Renoir was the son of the remarkable impressionist painter, Auguste Renoir - whose paintings are so beautiful and glorious that they are actually worth the millions that they sell for today. This film is perhaps Jean Renoir's finest work, though some might prefer his other masterpiece, La Grande Illusion, also available on this site. Unlike Grande Illusion that is a heavy film about the tragic ironies of war, this film is hilarious satire about the fading French aristocracy and a wonderful portrayal of the human comedy of love, marriage, and relationships.
