1. Amos and Andy - Check and Double Check

Description: It is with some hesitation... that LikeTelevision™ presents this Amos and Andy classic film - Check and Double Check. There are some high points in the film that make it more interesting from a historical perspective. It was made in 1930 and is Amos and Andy's first talkie. There's even a part that features Duke Ellington and His Cotten Club Orchestra. Oddly enough, Animator extraordinaire Seymour Kneitel (of Popeye and Casper fame).... made a cartoon with a catchy title - Chick and Double Chick. Hmmm that sounds like an interesting cartoon!

A white southern Captain looking to get a promotion leads a group of black soldiers behind the German lines to try and save a bridge from getting blown up. Stephen Boyd, best known for his role as Messala in Ben-Hur (the bad guy who had the big spikes on his chariot) plays Captain Beau Carter. Comedian Richard Pryor plays a frightened soldier for most of the movie in an annoying red beret and former NFL football great Rosie Grier (L.A. Rams) plays the funny big cuddly GI. (Rosie trivia - he was very skilled at Macrame and helped catch Bobby Kennedy's assassin Sirhan Sirhan on June 6, 1968 along with Olympian Rafer Johnson). Billy Dee Williams is the street wise kid from Harlem and Moses Gunn plays the cool headed doctor.

4. Bonanza - Fear Merchants

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Classic TV channel proudly presents - Bonanza - featuring Lorne Greene, Michael Landon, Dan Blocker, and Pernell Roberts. This episode features a special guest appearance by Gene Evans, the racist attorney running for mayor. I guess the dreaded racial card issue is not just a current phenomena.

5. Bosko in Baghdad

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Cartoon channel proudly presents L'il 'ol Bosko in Bagdad (it really spelled Baghdad, I know). Bosko is a little black kid who is sent out to take some cookies to his grandma - when he meets an Arab frog who takes him on a magic carpet to a land where other frogs, who play jazz, want to steal his cookies. A very bizarre cartoon - and full of terrible racial stereotypes - offending blacks and Arabs. Our apologies - it is hard to believe this was made for kids. The animation is superb - it even has a frog version of Stepin' Fetchit!

8. Daffy Duck - Ducktators

Description: In this bizarre cartoon, Hitler, Musselini, and Tojo are all lampooned in this wartime era animation. (I think the US gov't funded part of it, if not all of it). WARNING: racial stereotyping abounds in this weird duck tale from the days of yore. We present it as a piece of history.

9. Hassan the Simple

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Cartoon channel proudly presents Hassan the Simple, a story of how a simple old Arab man outsmarts his enemies. A bizarre opening with a real human, the Pied Piper, who introduces the story. Some bizarre racial stereotyping, but nothing too terrible by comparison. Iran and Iraq will never be the same!

10. Hysterical History

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Cartoon channel proudly presents - Hysterical History, a classic toon from that pokes fun at some characters from history, including Columbus, Ben Franklin flying a kite with his key, a plump Pocahontas that bears little resemblence to the young Indian lass from the recent Disney production. 15. Little King in Christmas Up North

Description: Little King, a spinoff from the Classic Betty Boop cartoons is featured in this animation called Christmas Up North - which is a really bizarre toon. Features some lame racial stereotyping with a dancing black face marionette, three guys in a tub, while the queen snores away in her own bed. This one must be seen to be believed... even includes Santa planting Christmas tree seeds before delivering some wild cars and planes, which don't last long because the King and his hobo friends crash them in less than a minute.

BTW - this 1937 movie in Technicolor features Margaret Hamilton in a short scene, (2 years later she gets a huge role, also in color as The Wicked Witch of The West The Wizard of Oz.) Also discusses his relationship with Eva Braun - who is usually shown in a bathing suit doing gymnastics, because Hitler can't stand fat people, according to the narrator. So how the heck did an ex-con and unemployed house painter get to become the biggest tyrant in recent history? Don't let it happen again!

25. Suddenly, It's Spring

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Cartoon channel proudly presents - Suddenly It's Spring, which features Johnny Gruelle's Raggedy Ann. 28. Winky The Watchman

Description: This cartoon was made in the mid forties - and was probably sponsored by the American Dental Association. Basically, this animation is REALLY weird - and features some real world scenes at a dentist's office with some kids.. who tells them the story of Winky the Watchman, who is in charge of making sure the pillars are taken care of. (The pillars are a set of teeth). Also has some unintended racial stereotyping foolishness - which just makes it even more creepy... as the Good 'uns are white folks... and the Bad 'uns are black... who seem to speak in the ridiculous Steppin Fetchit manner, often prevelent in entertainment made in this period. If you like Dental humor - make sure you search for Dentist, and find a bunch more gems. If you liked this one... you'll love Dr. Barre - the hockey team dentist.

29. Winter Draws On

Description: The LikeTelevision™ cartoon channel presents Winter Draws On - a terrific cartoon about birds flying south for the winter. The temperature is dropping and the Iceman Cometh and all the wise birds are migrating to warmer climates - well all the birds except one hapless family that is waiting for an egg to hatch. I'm Alabamy Bound - they'll be no Heebie Jeebies Hangin' Round. This cartoon is the first to offer a Blues tune as part of the soundtrack, though Leadbelly isn't singing it.
