A cool look at the underworld in Japan in post WWII, and the courage of a poor doctor, who is trying to cure another human, even if he is a criminal. We regret that the subtitles are difficult to read - but the story is pretty easy to follow.

15. M

Description: This is an excellent movie - Fritz Lang's - M is must see material (rated in the top 50 movies all time by IMDb and many others). Peter Lorre stars as Hans Beckert, a sick, twisted man who is a child murderer. When the hoodlums in the underworld of Berlin grow tired of all the police searches ruining their business, they decide to catch the child killer themselves - forget about the police. They enlisted the help of the homeless as their eyes and ears and then.... you'll see! watch it! This is the original masterpiece, German with subtitles. And Lorre's performance as Hans is remarkable - every bit as chilling as Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter in Silence of The Lambs. Don't take candy from a stranger takes on new meaning.

NYC newspaper reporter Wallace Cook tries to redeem himself after a hoax blows up by covering the story of Hazel Flagg, a Vermont girl dying of radium poisoning. (yes, it's fake news!) But the truth is, she's perfectly healthy. BTW - this 1937 movie in Technicolor features Margaret Hamilton in a short scene, (2 years later she gets a huge role, also in color as The Wicked Witch of The West The Wizard of Oz.) Warning: contains idiotic racial stereotyping typical of the period. Our apologies, it is presented as a piece of history.

21. One Step Beyond - Trap, The

Description: Need another terrific episode of One Step Beyond? No problem. One Step Beyond was a cool Sci-Fi TV show from the late 50s, early 60s... that inspired a few other cool sci-fi tv shows like The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. The Trap which aird on 11/15/1960 features Mike Kellin in a dual role as Dominic DeNovio and Fred Gibbs, two identical twins separated at birth. This episode explores the psychic connection between identical twins. How one twil can burn themselves, and the other will feel it. In this story, Dominic Denovio starts acting very weird and gets sick from dehydration. It turns out his identical twin brother fell in a deserted mine shaft and got hurt. Denovio's ranting in the hospital helps save his identical twin brother. One of my favorite parts of this episode is how different the priest's chin looks. I have never seen one like that. This episode is real weird one, bet you like it! BTW - you can also check out Mike Kellin in At War with the Army on LikeTelevision's Movie channel.

22. Phantom of the Opera, The

Description: The LikeTelevision™ movie channel proudly presents - The Phantom of the Opera. This early silent film made in 1925 stars Lon Chaney as the Phantom, also known as Eric who is a musical genius, but alas - butt ugly. Unlike the 1962 version with Herbert Lom, we do not get any background as to what happened to Erik - that made him so disfigured. (In the 1962 version - he is burned in a fire by some chemicals as he tries to retrieve his stolen music from a shady publisher.) This is the first film version of the Gaston Leroux novel, so please don't expect anyone will break into song. This is not the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical version released in 2004. Directed by Rupert Julian with Mary Philbin as Christine Daae (no relation to Regis), and Norman Kerry as Vicomte Raoul de Chagny, Christine's boyfriend. Kerry also stars as the swashbuckling hero of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

25. Rules of the Game, The

Description: Jean Renoir's Rules of the Game is one of the greatest films ever made. As you might already know, Jean Renoir was the son of the remarkable impressionist painter, Auguste Renoir - whose paintings are so beautiful and glorious that they are actually worth the millions that they sell for today. This film is perhaps Jean Renoir's finest work, though some might prefer his other masterpiece, La Grande Illusion, also available on this site. Unlike Grande Illusion that is a heavy film about the tragic ironies of war, this film is hilarious satire about the fading French aristocracy and a wonderful portrayal of the human comedy of love, marriage, and relationships.

29. Suddenly, It's Spring

Description: The LikeTelevision™ Cartoon channel proudly presents - Suddenly It's Spring, which features Johnny Gruelle's Raggedy Ann. Originally released for theaters, it's the story of a sick young girl named Nancy, who needs some sunshine to get well. So Raggedy Ann goes off on a kite ride to talk to the sun, who tells her to talk to Mr. Cloudy, who can not do a thing till Mr. Breezy moves him out of the way. Then, she must see Mr. Zero.... Yikes! Like many other cartoons from the era, this one contains racial stereotyping that is often offensive to some viewers. Our apologies, we present it as a piece of history. That said, it is still a nice peice of animation - check it out.
