Directed by - Hal Walker(1950) - B&W - 93 min LikeTelevision proudly presents - At War with the Army, a terrific Martin & Lewis comedy classic about the craziness of being a soldier in the US Army. Jerry Lewis stars as pfc Alvin Korwin, who as you might expect, is a goofy nerd with a heart of gold. Meanwhile - Dean Martin plays First Sgt. Vic Puccinelli, a childhood friend of Korwin's, who is a callous womanizer, trying to dodge an airhead, former sweetheart named Millie... who is in trouble, i.e. pregnant. Jean Ruth is terrific in her role as Millie. The film also introduces Polly Bergen, who plays Helen - Vic's current girlfriend. They do a beautiful duet in an old style recording booth - where soldiers would send nifty audio messages to friends and family back home.

Part one Intro, B&W, title screens, credits, etc. The movie begins with some classic drill sergeant exercises with pfc. Alvin Korwin (jerry Lewis) being a dork - as you might expect. Later on, we meet Vic played by Dean Martin who is Korwin's buddy from back home. Plus a rousing song about beans - hey, what's not to like. Part two The plot begins to thicken as we learn about the supply sergeant who is ripping off stuff, more comedy with Dean and Jerry, and when a girl in trouble shows up - looking for a soldier (Vic of course)... things get very interesting. Great fast paced comedy.... plus another musical number.
Part three A wonderful musical routine Dean Martin and the band - classic crooning from back in the day. Vic is still trying to dodge Millie. Meanwhile - Vic is planning to ship Helen's other love interest named Eddie overseas.... but Eddie learns about Millie and plans to use it against Vic.

Part one Part two Part three Part four Part five Part six

Part four Korwin dresses up in drag and sneaks out of camp to get Vic some music for a song he wants Vic to sing. Some very funny parts in a bar - where the drill sergeant wants to pick up Korwin - and vows to keep drinking till Korwin looks good. Dean Martin and Polly Bergen do a hot duet in the recording booth that ends with some steamy footage - well steamy for a 1950's movie slated for general audiences. Plus a surprise inspection by the Col. Davis, played by Douglas Evans.
Part five Vic is still trying to dodge Millie.... Korwin wants to see his new baby - and the Captain thinks he's the father of the child Millie is expecting. A wonderful vaudeville routine by Martin and Lewis... and a very very funny spoof on Barry Fitzgerald and Bing Crosby as who starred as Irish Catholic priests in Going My Way.

Part six Watch the gripping conclusion - will Millie find Vic? Will Polly go for Vic or Eddie? Will Alvin Korwin make it home to see his new baby? Will these guys ever go to combat or will they just sing songs? Watch it and find out for yourself.
