The LikeTelevision™ History channel proudly presents, This Day in History - August 9! On August 9, 1936 - Jesse Owens wins his 4th gold medal. August 9, 1936 - Berlin's Olympic Stadium hosts one of the most dramatic and politically significant events in Olympic history. No expense was spared by Adolf Hitler to promote the games in Nazi terms of Aryan racial superiority. But Ohio State's Jesse Owens confounded the Fuhrer's dogma. Hitler had referred to Blacks as an inferior race. Owens looked far from inferior when he won the 100 and 200 meters, the long jump and a relay. In addition to his unprecedented four gold medals, the modest Owens equaled or broke 12 Olympic records. He and several other Black teammates forced a humiliated Hitler to excuse himself from the stadium to avoid having to congratulate them.
