1936 Olympia - Part two
Starring - Jesse Owens, Cornelius Johnson, Konrad Frey, Helen Stephens, Many more fine athletes!
Directed by - Leni Riefenstahl(1936) - B&W - 90 min The LikeTelevision Movie channel proudly presents - The 1936 Olympics (Part two) - a landmark film of the 1936 Olympics by Leni Riefenstahl. Adolf Hitler is the host of the the Olympics - how's that for irony. In spite of all the disturbing footage of people doing that Hitler hi sign, Joseph Goebbels, and Musselini - the film is a great archive from the athletic competition. Check out the old swimming techniques.

Part one First a bunch of weird something or other - then you get a bunch of naked guys in a swimming hole and a sauna. Artsty bohemian maybe - too homo-erotica for me thanks. (...not that there's anything wrong with that). This clip contains brief nudity. Part two The Olympic games begin - 49 countries compete in 19 sports, 129 events. First off - some opening ceremonies, followed by a rich montage of gymnastics. Then, it's off to the water for a sailboat race.
Part three Part three starts off with a modern pentathelon - shooting, swimming, running etc. More ceremonies with a ton of people. Then - it's a fierce competition for the decathelon, with the gold won by USA.

Part one Part two Part three Part four Part five Part six

Part four Start off with a 100m cycling race - complete with the crash at the finish line. Then off to a 3 day equestrian event. Riders take spills over impossible jumps and also crash in a water hole. Great stuff!
Part five The final round of a rowing competition. Stroke, Stroke, Stroke. Follow this up with some snappy women's diving... high on graceful, not big on the "difficulty factor", at least by today's Olympic standards. Finishes with the Men's 200m Breast stroke final round!

Part six The final of the Men's 100m freestyle followed by the Women's 100m freestyle. Then of to Men's Springboard Diving - love those suits! Time to say "goodbye", closing ceremonies.
FACTOID - The Olympic torch was lit by the rays of the sun at Olympia in Greece and carried by 3,075 torch bearers. The new stadium in Berlin could hold 100,000 people . For the first time, the Games were televised. The events were broadcast throughout the Olympic village and to public halls and theatres throughout Germany which enabled all Germans to watch the Games. Results were transmitted to the world's media by telex and zeppelins carried newsreel film to other cities.
