Made For Each Other
Starring - Jimmy Stewart, Carole Lombard, Charles Coburn, Lucile Watson, Eddie Quillen
Directed by - John Cromwell(1939) - B&W - 92 min The LikeTelevision Movie channel proudly presents - Made For Each Other - with Jimmy Stewart, Carole Lombard, Charles Coburn, Lucile Watson, and Eddie Quillen.

Part one Jimmy Stewart plays John Mason an attorney in NYC. John returns from a trip and tells his boss, Judge Doolittle (Charles Coburn) that he has gotten married and wants some time off for a honeymoon. Part two Great scene where John and Jane Mason tell John's mother that they just got married. The classic "mother-in-law" is played by Lucile Watson, who has all the little nuances of insidious meddling down to a fine art. The honeymoon gets called off when Judge Doolittle tells John he needs him for the Higgins case.
Part three Okay - The Masons throw a dinner party for Judge Doolittle, thinking John will be made a new partner. Very funny scene - the maid is ready to quit, the judge is deaf, the icebox broke, and Carter is made partner instead of John. John and Jane become parents.

Part one Part two Part three Part four Part five Part six Part seven

Part four Another classic "mother-in-law" sequence, when Jane comes home from the hospital. John returns from his 10th reunion depressed because he isn't rich. The man most likely to succeed is having trouble making ends meet. Jane wants John to make an ultimatum to Judge Doolittle - either you give me a raise, make me a junior partner or else you can accept my resignation - effective immediately. John nevers makes his stand and instead takes a 25% pay cut, as the Judge tells him these are difficult times.
Part five John comes home late and feels terrible. Jane has already heard about the cut from Judge Doolittle. Bills go "past due" and things are tough for the Masons as their little boy grows up. Jane thinks about getting a job to help out. Plus a great scene as Jane confronts Harriet (Mother) - on New Year's Eve.

Part six John and Jane go out on New Year's Eve but have a difficult evening as John remembers his difficulties. He's in debt and going nowhere at work. Jane leaves and then returns with more bad news - the baby's got pneumonia. The doctor tells John the baby needs a serum. Trouble is - no one has the serum, except in Salt Lake City - where it's a blizzard. And his baby needs the serum quick or the baby will die. Finally, John finds a courageous pilot who will make the trip. Part seven The pilot takes off in the storm while John and Jane wait. Will the baby make it? Will the pilot crash? And will John and Jane ever get a decent break? Watch the stunning conclusion.
