This Day in History - October 9th
Starring - St. Paul's Cathedral
Directed by - (2001) - Color - 1 min The LikeTelevision History channel proudly presents, This Day In History - October 9! On October 9, 1940 - St. Paul's is bombed. St. Paul's Cathedral is the last of a succession of churches and places of worship built on a site in the heart of London. The previous structure was destroyed by London's great fire of 1666. Before Sir Christopher Wren won universal acclaim by building the cathedral, that has stood for over 300 years. This despite a Nazi blitz that did destroy the altar and left much of the London in flames on October 9, 1940. Somehow the bombs missed the great domes, and the cathedral endured the World War II raids - entrenching itself all the more as a symbol of British resolve. Many British heroes and statesmen lie buried within. Inscribed on the simple stone of Christopher Wren - If you seek my monument, look around you.
