This Day in History - October 19th
Starring - Al Capone
Directed by - (2001) - Color - 1 min The LikeTelevision History channel proudly presents, This Day In History - October 19! On October 19, 1931, Al Capone is convicted of Tax evasion. Chicago gangland chiefton Al Capone, alias "Scarface," is nailed by Federal prosecutors. Famous for the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and other gang war bloodbaths, Capone has managed to slip free of such charges in court. Upon moving from Brooklyn in 1920, he rose from a two-bit bootlegger to the undisputed war lord of Chicago gangsters. But a federal judge finally sentenced him to 11 years for, of all things, tax evasion. Long after his death, IRS agents were still after Capone, when a large vault was discovered beneath his former headquarters. Nothing was found but an empty liquor bottle (bonus: a national awakening that Geraldo Rivera was a buffoon), at this time scarface, owing $800,000 in back taxes, escaped the Tax Man.
