The LikeTelevision™ History channel proudly presents, This Day In History - October 23! On October 23, 1983, Marine base bombed in Beirut by terrorists. Rescuers searched among the rubble of Marine headquarters in Beirut after Lebanese suicide commandos drove trucks packed with explosives into 2 bases where U.S. and French peacekeeping troops were sleeping. More than 240 Marines died in the first explosion, which turned a four story structure in suffocating, burning ruins. Two minutes later, the Franch compound was hit in a similar attack, killing 58. As risky work continued, Marine reinforcements arrived in Beirut from the United States to replace the dead and injured - this point in time, October 23, 1983.
