West Point - 1981, Forty Americans are introduced at a press conference after being held hostage in Iran for 444 days. Their ordeal began in Tehran when student followers of the Ayatollah Khomeini sent shockwaves across America by storming the U.S. Embassy on November 4, 1979. One year to the day after forces of the Shah of Iran had shot a number of students at the University. Enraged that the now deposed Shah had entered the U.S. for medical treatment, the students threatened to kill all captive Americans if any rescue missions were attempted. Two days later, the relatively moderate government of Prime Minister Bazargan was disolved as Khomeini assumed full control of the nation and the fate of the hostages.
