Harker is startled awake the next morning with visions of what may or may not have happened the previous evening and goes searching for the truth in the light of day. He soon finds Dracula's crypt with the vampire lying "in state". At this point, he decides to grab and go but evidently collapses from the loss of blood and when he revives, finds he is locked in his room. From his window he watches the nosferatu as he loads his coffins onto his wagon and sets out for Bremen and his new life partner, the lovely-throated Nina. Harker manages to escape the castle walls but is so weak from vampire fever that he crumbles in a heap soon found by peasants and carted off to the local clinic. Peasants are like that. Meanwhile, Nosferatu journeys onward aboard an ocean-going vessel called the Demeter. It's not our business to advise a vampire regarding his travel arrangements; still, rafting down a river to the Black Sea, booking a ship to take you through the Baltic Sea, across the Mediterranean Sea through the Straits of Gibraltar up and around England and into and across the North Sea just to get a few boxes of dirt from Bacau to Bremen seems a bit excessive Anyway? Back in Bremen, Renfield, sensing the impending arrival of his master, gets hauled off to the bughouse where he astounds his keepers by actually eating the bugs. In this sequence we first meet Van Helsing the professor and as the soundtrack attests, he's just slightly less crazy than Renfield. The crewmen of the Demeter are dropping like flies, Harker recuperates and makes for home and Nina waits patiently in Bremen by the sea.
Part five
As the Demeter and Count Dracula get closer and closer to Bremen, Nina falls deeper and deeper into her somnambulistic trances and occasionally walks around with her arms outstretched and a rapturous glaze over her eyes. Renfield snaps, jumps his keeper and releases himself from the mental institution on his own recognizance. The Demeter floats into the harbor on auto-pilot and Nosferatu, the original surf vampire, tucks his coffin under his unholy arm and heads for his new digs. When it is discovered that the only person left aboard the Demeter is the captain and that he's lashed to the wheel and deader than 4 o'clock, the important guys of Bremen inspect the captain's log and declare that the ship has brought the plague to town. The Burgermaster of Bremen seals the city under quarantine. The undertakers of Bremen call for reinforcements. Harker has finally made it back across the mountains and is reunited with Nina. She is sure everything is going to be just fine now that he is back home but it doesn't take her long to find Jonathon's copy of the "Book of the Vampires" where she discovers the true nature of the man of her dreams, Dracula, and the one unthinkable method of destroying the beast forever. She swoons. Harker swoons.
Part six
Westenra? Remember Westenra? Harker's pal who was smoking something out of a saxophone back in part three? Anyway, he's pretty upset because it seems that his wife, Lucy, has caught a touch of the vampire fever also. And if you remember anything about cinematic motifs, if you're in a movie and you're sick and if the candle in your room blows out, that's it! You're dead! So Lucy's dead, Nina is struggling to come to grips with the awesome responsibility laid upon her by the "Book of the Vampires" and Renfield has never felt more alive while being chased around the countryside by bands of plague-ridden peasants and taunting them with aloof ecstasy from the rooftops. We next see Lucy working on a piece of embroidery that says either "I love you" or "I love Dieter" (we're not sure) but we are sure that she has at last made her unspeakable decision and when that ultimate lady's man, Nosferatu, comes to call she tricks poor, sleepy Jonathon into leaving in order that she may do her ultimate duty and take her place in the annals of movie martyrdom. THE END!
